Step 1: Getting the Fit Right
First things first—placement matters. The slip collar should sit high on the neck, just behind the ears. This gives you better control and stops pressure from being applied to the lower throat, which can be uncomfortable for your dog.
⚠️ If it’s sitting low like a regular collar, it’s not doing its job properly.
Another big one? The right size. The slip collar should be loose enough to slip on easily but not so big that it hangs too low.
Step 2: Correcting Without Constant Pressure
A slip collar isn’t meant to be tight the whole time—it should only engage when you need it to. The goal is light, clear communication.

Great slip collar
We started introducing Alfie to the slip collar for 5 mins everyday before our training sessions. It works great when it’s positioned properly but no matter how tight we place it , I think due to his long fur the slip collar moves lower down his neck and as such stops working because it is no longer as effective and Alfie is back to pulling. If it didn’t slip it’d be the best collar we’ve used.
